        <description><![CDATA[<p>Hello everyone, <br />
I am a new user approaching the world of bio-signal acquisition. More specifically, I recently purchased the EXG kit, which includes the Ganglion Board and all the necessary components for its use (electrodes, usb dongle, battery, etc.). A few days ago I started using it, following the guides available on the OpenBCI website. My final goal is to study EEG signals recorded from the primary motor cortex. However, before reaching that point, I decided to proceed step by step. I have already performed the following recordings (following the official guides) without any issues:<br />
1) ECG, using two input electrodes on +1 and -1, and the reference on G_D, with a right arm–left arm–left leg placement. I used gel electrodes and snap cables.<br />

<p>2) EMG, using two input electrodes on +1 and -1, and the reference on G_D, placed on the proximal–distal forearm, with the reference on the elbow. I also used gel electrodes and snap cables.<br />

<p>3) EEG, using two input electrodes at Fp1 and Fp2, with reference on the earlobes, connected to REF and G_D. I used dry polymer Ag/AgCl electrodes (the ones available on the OpenBCI website), ear-clip reference electrodes, snap cables, and a headband to secure the reference electrodes.<br />

<p>However, when moving to the next step of recording signals from the primary motor cortex, I encountered a problem: a strange noise appears constantly on all four channels. After connecting two dry electrodes to +1 and +2, and the ear-clip electrodes to G_D and REF, the recording started showing a continuous periodic noise (so much so that at first I thought it was an ECG artifact). I tried changing several times the placement of both the recording electrodes (moving them to Fp) and the reference electrodes (placing two gel electrodes on the mastoids), but the noise never disappeared. The input impedances appeared to be within normal range, but what confused me the most is that even when only the reference electrodes are connected, and even when they are not attached to the body, the same periodic signal is still present in all recording conditions (I also tried ECG and EMG recordings, and the same issue appears).</p>

<p>What could this be due to? How can I fix it? Am I doing something wrong? I am also attaching pictures of both successful and failed recordings.<br />

<h2>Problem</h2>

<p>Problem 1: New Ganglion board fails to initialize (~80% of the time). This is a new board received yesterday. When the board cannot initialize, it says to check the board is powered on and it is. After power cycling multiple times, perhaps 20% of the time it will connect and go to the widget board.</p>

<p>Problem 2: When successfully connecting, the latency of the accelerometer is very slow, perhaps 10-20 seconds. Observed this by flipping the board to change the gravity vector.</p>

<p>Problem 3: When clicking 'stop streaming data', the GUI reports failed to gather data from the board, and reports the board fails to send data and to check the board is powered on (and it is).</p>

<p>What I have tried: <br />
1) Power cycling Mac, ganglion board multiple times<br />
2) Restarting the GUI multiple times<br />
3) Replugging the USB ganglion BLE dongle<br />
3) Charging the battery to full</p>

<h2>Expected</h2>

<p>Expectation is for board to connect &gt;90% (ideally 100%) of the time. <br />
Expectation is for real time reporting to have &lt;1s latency <br />
Expectation is for GUI To be able to start/stop data collection without board or GUI crashing</p>

In FFT Plot, amplitude is quite low. They are around or less than 2 microvolts.</p>

<p>I use BioExplorer and Neurobit Optima. Usually, amplitudes are between 2 -15 μV.<br />
I use regular electrodes and they work fine with BioExplorer.<br />
I played sample data and their amplitudes are also quite low.<br />
It seems that OpenBCI gets only 1/2 or 1/3 amplitude. Is this normal? <br />
Do you guys get amplitude of  2 -15 μV?</p>

<p>My recording data is much lower than sample data as well.</p>

        <description><![CDATA[<p>I´m using the Ganglion board with the openBCI GUI on a Windows PC. The software gets stuck and hangs when trying to start the session. It says ´Starting Session´ but never actually starts. I tried some things:</p>

<p>Happens on Windows 10 and 11, both with and without running as admin.<br />
Happens with two different bluetooth receivers, and on two different ganglion boards. All of those do actually function properly on different windows PCs.<br />
Happens with both the GUI application standalone as well as through the processing app.<br />
Tried reinstalling several times, no luck unfortunately.</p>

<p>Would you have any idea what it could be or what I could try?<br />

<p>However, when I attempted to use the updated board with BioEra 4.188's Ganglion module, it appeared that the module might not support this new firmware version. Consequently, I can't obtain accurate brainwave readings, as showcased here:<br />

<p>I am conducting an N-back experiment using OpenBCI hardware and I'm running into a fundamental issue during my ERP analysis. After filtering, epoching, and averaging my data, the resulting ERP waveforms have an amplitude in the range of <strong>[-5000, 5000] µV</strong>, which is physiologically impossible and several orders of magnitude larger than what is reported in the literature (±15 μV).</p>

<p>I suspect I am making an error in my data processing pipeline, most likely related to unit conversion or baseline correction. I'm hoping the community can help me spot what I might be missing.</p>

<p><strong>What I Expect vs. What I'm Getting</strong></p>

<p>I am comparing my results to two papers with similar paradigms:</p>

<p>My experiment is an <strong>N-back task</strong>. I have processed my data using the exact filtering methods from the papers above, but the amplitude problem persists in all cases.</p>

<p>Given the massive discrepancy, my issue is likely not the filter choice, but something more fundamental.</p>

<p><strong>Unit Conversion:</strong> This seems like the most probable cause. The raw OpenBCI data comes in ADC counts, not microvolts. <strong>What is the correct formula or scaling factor to convert the raw data from a Ganglion board into microvolts?</strong> I may be missing this step entirely or using the wrong factor.</p>

<p>Could anyone who has successfully generated ERPs with OpenBCI share the essential pre-processing steps they use, especially regarding scaling the raw data? Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.</p>

<p>I am seeking advice on an issue I'm having with my Ganglion board where <strong>Channel 4 is consistently producing abnormal ERP data</strong>, while Channels 1, 2, and 3 appear to be functioning correctly.</p>

<p>I have already confirmed that all four DIP switches (SW1-4) on the board are in the <strong>DOWN</strong> position for standard EEG recording.</p>

<p><strong>The Core Problem</strong></p>

<p>The issue seems to be tied specifically to the <strong>Channel 4 input pin (+4)</strong> on the Ganglion itself, not the electrodes or cables. No matter which electrode location or physical cable I connect to Channel 4, the resulting ERP plot is corrupted and looks significantly different from the other channels.</p>

<p><strong>Troubleshooting Steps &amp; Evidence</strong></p>

<p>To diagnose this, I have run multiple tests, including swapping the electrode inputs.</p>

<li><p><strong>Test A: Fp2 connected to Channel 4</strong></p>

<p>I recently purchased the Biosensing Starter Bundle featuring the 4-channel Ganglion board and I am having trouble acquiring meaningful data. I have followed the setup instructions from the official tutorial video (<span data-youtube="youtube-1xfVZ5NMhsM?autoplay=1"><a rel="nofollow" href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1xfVZ5NMhsM"><img src="https://img.youtube.com/vi/1xfVZ5NMhsM/0.jpg" width="640" height="385" border="0" alt="image" /></a></span>), but my results are not as expected.</p>

<p>Here is a summary of the issues I am encountering:</p>

<ol>
<li><strong>Identical Data On/Off Head:</strong> I am receiving nearly identical data whether the electrodes are worn on my head or left completely unconnected. The signal does not appear to be physiological.</li>
<li><strong>Unusual Raw Data:</strong> The raw data trace is very erratic and does not resemble a typical EEG signal. (Please see attached image).</li>
<li><strong>Incorrect Widget Status:</strong> The GUI's "Focus/Relax" widget consistently shows "Not Relaxing," even when I am sitting still and relaxed. This contradicts the "Relaxing" state shown in the tutorial video.</li>
<li><strong>Discrepant Plots:</strong> Both the Time Series and FFT plots from my session look significantly different from the examples in the video.</li>
<li><strong>No Band Power Fluctuation:</strong> The Band Power metrics remain flat and show no change, even with the electrodes applied to my scalp.</li>
</ol>

<p><strong>My Setup &amp; Troubleshooting Steps:</strong></p>

<ul>
<li><strong>Hardware:</strong> Biosensing Starter Bundle (Ganglion 4-channel).</li>
<li><p><strong>Electrode Placement:</strong></p>

<li><strong>Channel 0 &amp; 2:</strong> Flat electrodes on my forehead.</li>
<li><strong>Channel 1 &amp; 3:</strong> Comb electrodes near my temples.</li>
<li><em>(Note: Also mention where you placed the reference/ground electrodes, e.g., "Reference and Ground electrodes were clipped to my earlobes.")</em></li>
</ul></li>
<li><p><strong>Verification:</strong> I have double-checked that all wires are securely connected to the correct pins on the Ganglion board.</p></li>
<li><strong>Impedance Check:</strong> I am concerned about the quality of my electrode contact. I have taken screenshots of the impedance values both <strong>with</strong> the electrodes on my head and <strong>without</strong> them connected. These are attached for your review.</li>
</ul>

<p>Could you please help me diagnose this? Specifically, could this be an issue with poor electrode contact, a grounding problem, environmental noise, or a potential hardware fault?</p>

When I open Data Source--&gt; Ganglion--&gt; Bluetooth (BLED112 Dongle) I get an endless search and nothing shows up. Running a depreciated version of the GUI (5.2.2) works just fine. Both 6.0.0 and 5.2.2 work on the other (older) lab computer. I have no trouble connecting a Cyton board via the Cyton dongle. The BLED112 dongle shows up in device manager as COM4. I'm at a loss why only the new version of the GUI can't find the Ganglion board (boards actually, I've tried two different Ganglion board and two different dongles).</p>

I was looking at the schematics of the Ganglion board and am a little bit confused about the impedance measurement part. From what I understand, impedance measurement is used to check the impedance of the electrode and skin contact. <br />
The schematic shows a DAC outputting a voltage which is fed to the IN+ pin of the Diff OpAmp through a digital switch. Also this signal is superimposed on the REF pin through another digital switch. I presume while doing a impedance check the corresponding DIP switches are placed in IN- position. How is the impedance calculated ? Is it a ratio of the DAC signal to the signal measured by the ADC. Is the type of the waveform used specified in the documentation.<br />

        <description><![CDATA[<p>Hi! We're students making a final project with EMG signals for our university and we're using a Ganglion board that the university gave us to do it. Until now we were using only the channel1 for testing purposes and everything went ok but now we are trying to use all 4 channels to amplify our muscle signal but we discovered that channel 2 and 3 have periodic noise peaks with and without the electrode cables connected to it. Channel 1 and 4 seems to work fine for now. It seems that the noise peaks are time synched with some packets lost (we saw 2 packet loses for each noise peak involving channel 2 and 3). We searched in the OpenBCI page and forum for answers but we couldn't solve the problem. The only big issue that we think could be the problem is that we are using the native bluetooth option because we don't have the BLE dongle that is mentioned in the official page, could it be that the native bluetooth connection with the Ganglion board is causing these big periodic noises in channel 2 and 3? We also used different computers and operating systems, we updated the software version to the latest (3.0.2) and always used the last version of the GUI. <br />

<p>Hi everyone,<br />
I've been playing around with ganglion chips and staring at various ssvep stimuli, however I've failed to achieve any entrainment or consistent peak at 10 hz with eyes closed. I've read previous posts about computer screens not being able to consistently create reliable stimuli, and tried the mindaffect interface to test my display. My display seems to be fine, and I wanted to see if I was messing up something on the hardware setup side. I've followed the ganglion setup page and the eeg setup page as well, and have included pictures of the front and back of my chips for your reference. If anyone has any tips it would be greatly appreciated, thanks!</p>

So my Ganglion says that my eeg amplitude is up to 3,299 uv <br />
with an average of -977. And then ran again, and maximum <br />
of  3151  and average of -345. Obviously this is wrong. <br />
For now I am just using one channel, so one electrode, which is this type:<br />
