Happy September everyone! We are very excited to update you on what we’ve been doing all Summer. After much anticipation, we now have the WiFi Shield available for purchase in the store! In addition, a new version of the GUI (v3.0.0) has been released for Processing and as a standalone app for Mac/Windows/Linux. Additionally, BrainBay has added Ganglion compatibility to its application! To celebrate all of this, we are initiating a “back to school” sale that will be active through the month of September. 1. Our Brand New WiFi Shield!

The OpenBCI WiFi Shield is a plug and play accessory board for the Cyton and Ganglion devices. The WiFi Shield is the first open-source device that connects bio-sensors directly to the internet, allowing you to easily bypass latency filled serial ports and low range bluetooth connections. Further, the wifi shield enables you to stream faster and farther than the default bluetooth-based dongle. On most wireless networks, the WiFi Shield can stream well over 1000Hz with the Cyton and Daisy boards and at 1600Hz with the Ganglion board—over 10x faster data rates relative to traditional bluetooth-based EEG devices. 2. New GUI 3.0.0 Release

Finally, the OpenBCI GUI v3.0.0 is here! The latest version of the GUI includes many new features and widgets for doing new types of data processing and visualization. In addition to adding WiFi Shield support, we’ve also added a “focus widget” with a generic and customizable classifier that helps you train how to “focus!” Additionally, we’ve added a widget that visualizes power bands and another widget for the Pulse Sensor. We hope you enjoy the newest additions to the GUI. If you encounter any bugs or have any feature requests, please submit an issue to the OpenBCI_GUI Github repository.

3. BrainBay Adds Ganglion Support

BrainBay is an open source Visual Programming Language (VPL) that allows Digital Signal Processing (DSP) elements to be connected together graphically to construct a signal processing and biofeedback pipeline.Chris Veigl, author of BrainBay has just released the latest 2.0 version of BrainBay that includes support for the OpenBCI Ganglion. Previous versions have supported Cyton, so now both OpenBCI platforms are available for you to create your own designs.
