Have you seen the movie "Listening"? If so, what did you think?



I'm thinking the 4-channels of my Ganglion has me almost on their level, but to be able to read people's thoughts with a really high level of accuracy I might need to save up for a Cyton board. Incidentally, the movie is on Netflix.

There is an entire field of Consciousness Hacking now, with meetups, conferences, Transformative Technologies, etc. I did watch the trailer for this film. And although the premise of tech assisted telepathy is intriguing (and already being pursued by Dr. Michael Persinger) -- this particular style of dystopia, action adventure, really takes a good potential into Hollywood formulas.

I appreciate your mention of it, but would find sitting through something like this really agitating. The vibrations we take in do color our perceptions and view of the world. Is reality a friendly place with much to discover, learn, collaborate?

@wjcroft I don't blame you. Sounds like you feel about EEG stories the way that Isaac Asimov felt about robotics stories, which is that the technology should never be cast in a bad light. I agree with that. Still, it helped get me more excited about BCI and EEG, so that's something, I guess. I guess the way I look at it is just that the technology was really cool and exciting, but the government (not the technology) was evil and abusive. Both of which I think are pretty reflective of reality.

I found that movie after watching a BCI telepathy experiment by Berkeley students several years ago (it involved a simple computer game both participants were playing, with one thinking instructions to the other). Between those 2, my interested was very much primed.

@wjcroft Awesome, awesome. Yes, the name Rao is very familiar. It seems you've correctly identified the one I was thinking of. I wanted to remember it as being Berkeley, but seems it was UW. I guess that's bias affecting my memory!

This reminds me about MagStim machines and the other brain-input TMS devices. They are all crazy-expensive aren't they? I bet that you and your team of EE ninjas could come up with an affordable homebrew version of it for us to buy like you did with the EEG boards

There is a lot of inexpensive commercial or even DIY tDCS being done. Many forums for this. The TMS involves high voltages, currents and potentially lethal capacitor banks. :-) But nonetheless, eager hackers carry on...
